Data backup and availability ¶
The security and long-term availability of data is a top priority in the Forest3DTwin project. All uploaded and processed data is stored redundantly:
- Primary storage is in a European AWS S3 bucket, which provides a scalable and reliable infrastructure for accessing and distributing the data.
- Local copy: In addition, a full copy of the data is stored on an internal server at WSL. This server is under the control of the Remote Sensing Department and is regularly backed up to prevent data loss due to technical failures or other risks.
This dual storage - in the cloud and locally - ensures that the data is both publicly accessible and institutionally protected. The combination of modern cloud technology and proven local infrastructure ensures robust and sustainable data storage.
